Akash: is India's first indigenously designed,
developed and produced air defence surface-to-air missile system. The maximum
range of this missile is 25 kilomteres. It can neutralise targets at a maximum
altitude of 20 kilomteres. The missile has been developed as part of the
Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme initiated in 1984. An Air Force
variant of Akash has already been inducted.
